OVERVIEW
Most common causes of heel pain are idiopathic (on its own), muscle tightness, overuse like walking, running, trauma, infection, arthritis, nerve compression and diabetes. One common condition is plantar fasciitis. It can be severe early morning after you get up and gradually decreases over the next few hours. It gets aggravated after attempting to walk after a period of rest.
Heel pain affects the walking gait (way of walking) which leads to abnormal walk and involvement of other joints like knee, hip and back causing soreness and pain. In absence of any intervention, heel pain (it) may last from few weeks to years and can negatively affect the activities of daily living.
Unlike common misconception, heel pain has many treatment options ranging from conservative methods like exercises to surgical options.
Foremost thing is to see your foot and ankle surgeon regarding correct diagnosis of the cause of your heel pain so that you can be initiated on right treatment path.
For temporary relief you should avoid running on hard surfaces and uneven surfaces. Always Stretch before you start to walk (why?) and most important thing: do not believe anyone saying heel pain has no treatment, go and consult with your foot and ankle surgeon at the earliest.
